Skiathos is 47 km² and has about 6,000 inhabitants. There are about 60 beaches which should suit any. Skiathos town is the only town on the island. Here are many cozy alleys to walk in and by the big stairs, it is full of bars and taverns. It is a very green island. The movie Mamma Mia was partially filmed on Skiathos. Here you live in the city or at a bathing hotel directly on any beach. The island is small but it pays to rent a car and look around because it is so beautiful in nature. By car you can also have the luck of finding your own beach. The Koukounaries beach is one of the most popular and regular tours with the bathing bus running from the city. Long fine sandy beach suitable for families with children. Full of activities and several snack bars. Koukounaries is not for those who seek peace and quiet.
You can travel to Skiathos with a charter company. Either a complete trip with accommodation or an air chair and then book accommodation separately. It is also possible to fly scheduled flight but this often means more changes.
Evangelistria A beautiful monastery up in the mountains where you can buy wine and olive oil produced in the monastery. The monastery is very nice in the Lehoun Valley. Up in the mountains you can also have lunch at one of the tavernas with wonderful views. Kastro Skiathos old capital was located on the northern part of the island on a cliff. The capital was here because during the 1300s, pirates were constantly attacked. It is a longer way to go up to the castle but well up there you have a great view. You can only get here by boat. Â Skopelos You can easily get to the neighboring islands by boat. In the town of Skopelo you enter among the narrow, cozy alleys. Alonissos Alonissos has a calm and sleepy atmosphere. The sea around the island is a national marine park with lots of animals and plants.
