Symi has probably Greece's most beautiful port city, Gialos. Every day, dozens of tourists arrive in Gialos from Rhodes. The city of Chorio is overgrown with Gialos and you can best get there via the beautiful stairs Kalistrata. Chorio is the exact opposite of Gialos, here there are not many tourists and you are met by a vibrant Greek village with small alleys and beautiful old houses. There are several tavernas. All of Symi has a mountainous barren terrain.
Symi is not for anyone looking for long white sandy beaches. Here is the pebble stone that applies even if there are some sandy beaches. By excursion boat you reach more solitary beaches.
You can travel to Symi with a charter company. Either a complete trip with accommodation or an air chair and then book accommodation separately. However, most accommodation is usually booked by the charter companies. Nevertheless, you can find your own accommodation. You fly to Rhodes and from the port of Rhodes city there is a boat to Symi. Travel time by boat is 1.5 to 2 hours.
